Implants

A dental implant mimics the form and function of a natural tooth, which consists of a root and a crown. The crown is the visible part of your tooth. It is used to chew food and is therefore the most susceptible to cavities. The crown is attached to the jawbone by way of the root. When decay has gone deep enough or when periodontal disease has advanced enough to warrant an extraction, the entire tooth, root and all, is taken out. The dental implant is a titanium post that gets placed in the bone after the tooth has been taken out. Once the bone heals around the implant, we place an artificial crown on top. The new crown is customized to match your bite and the color of your teeth.

What are the benefits of getting teeth implants?

  • They look and act like natural teeth

  • They can last a lifetime with the right care

  • They improve appearance, comfort, and speech

  • It’s easier to eat

If you have lost one or more natural teeth, dental implants are a great option for restoring your dentition. After an extraction, teeth will begin to shift and migrate into the new space which can cause problems with the bite. Restoring a tooth with a dental implant will ensure that your natural teeth stay in the right place without having to prepare healthy adjacent teeth as with a traditional bridge. To find out if you are a good candidate for dental implants, please call our office and Dr. Vismans can evaluate your bite and bone to ensure optimal results.
